Ozempic
semaglutide - weekly injection
A once-weekly GLP-1 receptor agonist originally developed for type 2 diabetes, widely used for weight management. Requires refrigeration before use, which our physicians can help you plan for during travel.
Travel changes everything - your schedule, your diet, your routine. Our physicians can help you manage weight loss medications and consultations before and after your trip, so you stay on track wherever you go.
What we offer
Whether you are heading abroad for a week or returning from months overseas, your weight loss journey should not have to pause. At Travelers Medical Center, our physicians provide consultations focused on weight management in the context of travel, accounting for the unique challenges that time zones, dietary changes, disrupted routines, and altered activity levels can bring.
We see patients both before departure, to establish or adjust a medication plan that will work during travel, and after returning, to reassess progress, address any changes in health, and continue or refine treatment.
Our physicians are experienced with the full range of current weight loss medications, including injectable GLP-1 receptor agonists and oral agents, and can work with you to find the right approach for your body, your itinerary, and your goals.
Appointments are 20–40 minutes. Walk-ins can potentially be accommodated, if schedule allows; scheduled appointments preferred. Physician-supervised consultations only, not a weight loss program or clinic.
Medications we manage
semaglutide - weekly injection
A once-weekly GLP-1 receptor agonist originally developed for type 2 diabetes, widely used for weight management. Requires refrigeration before use, which our physicians can help you plan for during travel.
semaglutide - weekly injection
The higher-dose semaglutide formulation approved specifically for chronic weight management. Same active ingredient as Ozempic, prescribed at doses optimized for weight loss. Injection timing can be adjusted around travel days.
tirzepatide - weekly injection
A dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist with strong clinical data for weight reduction. Weekly dosing makes it highly manageable during travel, and our physicians can advise on handling and timing across time zones.
various - daily oral dosing
For patients who prefer or require a non-injectable option, oral weight loss medications may be appropriate. These can be more convenient for travel, with no refrigeration requirements. Our physicians can evaluate whether an oral agent is right for you.
storage, customs, documentation
Injectable medications come with special travel considerations, from TSA guidelines to international customs requirements to cold chain storage. We provide written documentation and practical guidance for traveling with these medications internationally.
Before and after your trip
Is this right for you?
You are currently taking Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, or a similar medication and want guidance on managing it safely during an upcoming trip.
You travel regularly for work or leisure and need a physician who understands how to integrate weight management into a travel-heavy lifestyle.
You are interested in starting a GLP-1 or oral weight loss medication and want to initiate treatment with travel considerations built into the plan from the start.
You are between primary care providers, have moved to New York City, or need a prescription bridge while your regular physician is unavailable.
You are back from a trip and want to reassess your weight, restart or adjust a medication regimen, or address concerns that emerged while you were away.
You have questions about your current medication, dosing, or whether a different agent might be better suited to your goals and travel schedule.
Common questions
Yes, in most cases. Injectable medications like GLP-1s are generally permitted on commercial flights in carry-on bags under TSA rules. Internationally, requirements vary by country. We can provide a physician letter documenting your prescription, which is recommended for customs and airport security in many destinations.
For weekly injectables like semaglutide or tirzepatide, time zone changes are generally low-stakes, with a day or two of variation in dosing schedule is usually well tolerated. We can advise on the best approach for your specific itinerary and medication.
Our physicians evaluate each patient individually. If you are an appropriate candidate, a prescription can often be provided at the first visit following a clinical assessment. If you are already established on a GLP-1 through another provider, we can typically continue or adjust your existing regimen.
Our standard consultation fee is $175. Additional services (lab orders, extended visits, documentation letters) may incur additional fees. We do not bill insurance directly; a superbill can be provided for potential out-of-network reimbursement.
No referral is needed. We are a walk-in-friendly practice and welcome patients directly. Scheduled appointments are preferred and can be made via phone or online booking.
Book a weight loss consultation before or after your next trip. Our physicians are available Monday through Friday at our Greenwich Village office.
